Summer Season Scenic and Lighting Designers
Theatre Charlotte is now accepting applications for Scenic Designers and Lighting Designers for the 2026 summer intensive season.

Application deadline is May 1, 2026; interviews begin immediately and positions will be open until filled.

About the Summer Intensive Season:
Theatre Charlotte produces two musical productions over a four-week period, leading off with the Student Theatre Guild production of Big Fish followed by the TCjr production of Matilda Jr. Designers for the summer intensives should be able to create a design that serves each production while creatively finding ways to easily transition from one show to the next. The turn around time between productions is less than one week. For more information on the summer intensive programs, schedules, etc. please visit our website.
Available Positions and Application Details:
Scenic Designers: Scenic Designers are responsible for bringing the visual elements of the production to life through a creative, well thought out and efficient design that is within the resources and budget set forth by Theatre Charlotte. We seek designers who can hold fast to strict deadlines and are willing to work within the challenges of the space, budget and limited production personnel. The ability to creatively reuse scenic elements or create ones that can be used for both productions is a bonus. Scenic Designers must have drafting skills with either AutoCad or Vectorworks and be available to assist with set dressing, scenic painting and finishing touches as needed. Pay is $2000 for both designs.

Lighting Designer: Lighting Designers are responsible for reinforcing and enhancing visual and emotional elements of productions through use of theatrical lighting techniques and general illumination. Our designers must be comfortable on ladders or be willing to work with volunteers who can assist with lighting needs. Lighting Designers must be available during tech week leading up to opening night, as well as hang and focus as determined in the production schedule. Pay is $2000 for both designs.
