Theatre Charlotte is now accepting applications for future consideration in all areas of production. Please see the brief job overview and responsibilities for positions as outlined below.

No phone calls, please. Local applicants are preferred as Theatre Charlotte will not reimburse for travel expenses. Pay scale depends on the production, role, experience, and final budget.


Stage Managers:

Our Stage Managers serve as the liaison between directors, actors, production staff and the Theatre Charlotte staff.  Communication is essential in being successful in this position as well as patience and organization. Stage Managers are responsible for being at all rehearsals, recording blocking, taking notes during meetings and calling the show during performances.  Cheerful and positive people are a must; the ability to manage many different personalities is key; understanding how to balance professional expectations with local, non-professional actors of various skill levels is also a priority. Anticipated pay range: $1000-1800

Scenic Designers:

Scenic Designers are responsible for bringing the visual elements of the production to life through a creative, well thought out and efficient design that is within the resources and budget set forth by Theatre Charlotte.  We seek designers who can hold fast to strict deadlines and are willing to work within the challenges of the space, budget and limited production personnel. Anticipated pay range: $1000-1500

Lighting Designers:

Lighting Designers are responsible for reinforcing and enhancing visual and emotional elements of productions through use of theatrical lighting techniques and general illumination.  Our designers must be comfortable on ladders or be willing to work with volunteers who can assist with lighting needs.  Lighting Designers must be available during tech week leading up to opening night, as well as hang and focus as determined in the production schedule. This is a hands-on position. Anticipated pay range: $1000-1500

Costume Designers:

Costume Designers reinforce character personalities, time period, setting and mood through the creative use of clothing.  Our Costume Designers must be prepared to acquire, purchase or build all costume pieces for a production within the budget outlined for the production.  People who are fun to collaborate with and have an eye for detail are preferred. Fabrication, sewing and costume construction skills are a must. Anticipated pay range: $1000-2000

Sound Designers:

Sound Designers support the vision of the production through the appropriate and timely integration of sound effects, music and underscoring.  Applicants should have experience with QLab and experience with digital mixing boards is a plus.  Designers will be expected to create a cue sheet that can be used by the Stage Manager and crew to execute the cues as needed during the run of the production. Anticipated pay range: $1000-1200

Sound Engineers:

Sound Engineers are responsible for setting up the sound system for musicals, which may include programming the sound board for production, setting up the wireless mic system and integrating live musicians into the mix.  Applicants should have experience with QLab, mixing live sound, wireless mic systems and digital sound boards. Sound engineers on occasion will be asked to run sound during production and may be asked to train individuals to run the sound system for performances. Anticipated pay range: $1000-1500
