ABOUT GOD OF CARNAGE

Winner of the Tony Award for Best Play, this explosive comedy is all fun and games – until the grown-ups get hurt. When two sets of parents politely meet over coffee and cake to settle a schoolyard spat between their sons, the gloves come off as neighborly manners disintegrate into laugh-out-loud, no-holds barred mayhem. With its biting satire and hilarious dialogue, this play offers a witty and thought-provoking commentary on human nature and social decorum.

AVAILABLE ROLES

Age ranges represent those of the character not necessarily the performer. Intimacy in this production may reflect general acts of affection by spouses (i.e. touch on the back or shoulders, hand holding, a kiss on the cheek).

VERONICA NOVAK | Female presenting, 40s–50s

Veronica is principled, articulate, and deeply invested in social responsibility and moral order. She believes in civility, culture, and setting a good example, especially for children. At first, she appears calm and controlled, even gracious. As the evening progresses, her need for righteousness becomes volatile, revealing emotional intensity, rigidity, and an uncompromising moral edge.

MICHAEL NOVAK | Male presenting, 40s–50s

Michael is friendly, personable, and seemingly reasonable. The “let’s all just relax” presence in the room. He prides himself on being open-minded and easygoing. Underneath the charm, however, lie resentment, defensiveness, and an unsettling honesty that emerges once social norms dissolve. His transformation is surprising, funny, and uncomfortable.

ANNETTE RALEIGH | Female presenting, late 30s–50s

Annette is polished, accommodating, and emotionally restrained. Accustomed to managing stress and deferring to others, she works hard to maintain composure and social grace. As tensions rise, her physical and emotional control begins to fracture, exposing vulnerability, anger, and long-suppressed resentment.

ALAN RALEIGH | Male presenting, 40s–50s

Alan is sharp, successful, and unapologetically dismissive of social conventions. A high-powered professional, he values logic, efficiency, and winning over politeness or empathy. Cynical and biting, he uses intellect as armor and weapon. While abrasive from the outset, Alan’s consistency forces the others to confront their own contradictions.
