Frankenstein Auditions
Theatre Charlotte is thrilled to announce auditions for Frankenstein written by Nick Dear and directed by Dee Abdullah. Performances will be held at Theatre Charlotte from Oct. 30 – Nov. 15, 2026.
AUDITION AND SIGN UP DETAILS
Auditions will be held in person on Sunday, August 23rd and Monday, August 24th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church located at 1001 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207.
Please sign up for an audition time and fill out an audition form here.
During your audition time, you will read scenes from the script and you may be asked to stay beyond your audition time to read with others. You may be asked to show movement or physicality related to a role you are auditioning for (see notes below), however, acts of intimacy and physical contact with other auditionees is not required. Sides will not be available in advance.

Theatre Charlotte is a volunteer-based organization and all positions are unpaid.
REHEARSALS
Rehearsals are typically Sunday through Thursdays from 6pm until 9:30pm. There may be an occasional Saturday rehearsal later in the process.
ABOUT FRANKENSTEIN
Told through the eyes of the abandoned Creature, this bold gothic retelling follows a life born innocent and curious, only to be rejected by the very man who made him. Alone in a world that fears and despises him, his yearning for connection spirals into rage and revenge. Determined to confront his creator, he hunts him down to demand a terrifying bargain. Visceral and haunting, this powerful production explores the explosive bond between maker and creation, confronting us with urgent questions of responsibility, belonging, and what it truly means to be human. In the end, Frankenstein dares us to decide: who is the real monster?
AVAILABLE ROLES
Note that ages are suggested and performers should be able to portray the age range of the character. Some actors will be playing multiple characters and some roles may be understudied. All adult roles should be played by people over the age of 18.
THE CREATURE (Male presenting):
An intimidating presence with a childlike curiosity, he is shaped by the people and circumstances around him. Seeking someone with the ability to show emotion through stretches without dialogue and must be able to emote through physicality. This is a physically demanding role.
Intimacy: must be comfortable dressed in a loincloth and will portray raping Elizabeth (without nudity). Also may be asked to touch Elizabeth’s chest with her clothes on. Physical violence includes choking or hitting other characters.
VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN (Male Presenting, 20s-40s): A scientist who is consumed with his work and reputation. Driven by ego and the desire to create life.
Intimacy: May share a kiss with Elizabeth. May touch Elizabeth with her clothes on.
GRETEL (Female Presenting, 20s-60s) A woman of the streets doing what she can to make ends meet.
Intimacy: Simulated attack by her customer.
GUSTAV (Male Presenting, 30s-50s.): A beggar and informant. Partner to Klaus.
KLAUS (Male Presenting, 20s-50s): A beggar and partner to Klaus. He is likely the sidekick.
DE LACEY (Male Presenting, 50s – 60s): A blind man who serves as the Creature’s primary teacher. He is trusting and kind.
FELIX (Male Presenting, 20s-40s): De Lacey’s son and husband to Agatha. He is intense and cares greatly for his family.
Intimacy: May share a playful kiss or touch with Agatha.
AGATHA (Female Presenting, 20s-30s): Felix’s wife. She is an optimist.
Intimacy: May share a playful kiss or touch with Felix.
FEMALE CREATURE (Female Presenting, 20s – 40s): A partner created in the image of the Creature. This is a non-speaking role and includes a scene showcasing movement in a unique way.
Intimacy: Must be comfortable wearing minimal clothing to cover private parts. Nudity is not necessary.
ELIZABETH (Female Presenting, 20’s – 30’s): Victor’s fiancée. She is smart, compassionate and eager to build a life with Victor.
Intimacy: May share a kiss or touch with Victor. She is raped by the Creature. No nudity.
WILLIAM FRANKENSTEIN (Male Presenting, 10 - 15): Victor’s younger brother. An innocent, playful and curious child.
MONSIEUR FRANKENSTEIN (Male Presenting, 50’s - 60’s): Victor and William’s father. A traditional and stern judge.
CLARICE (Female Presenting, 20’s – 50’s): Elizabeth’s maid. Caring and dutiful, yet blunt.
EWAN (Male Presenting, 30’s – 50’s): An Orkney Islander who supplies Victor with essentials for creating the Female Creature. He is willing to compromise his morals for money.
RAB (Male Presenting, 20’s – 40’s): An Orkney Islander who is cautious and does not approve of Victor’s work. He refers to Ewan as Uncle Ewan and is obligated to help him.
ENSEMBLE (Male and Female presenting roles, 20’s – 60’s): Will play townspeople, attendants, the constable and others. Some of these roles may be non-speaking roles.
