A Christmas Carol Auditions
Theatre Charlotte is delighted to announce auditions for our 20th annual production of A Christmas Carol directed this year by Stuart Spencer. For 20 years, A Christmas Carol has been Theatre Charlotte’s treasured holiday tradition. This anniversary production celebrates the warmth and wonder of Charles Dickens’ beloved novel through the eyes of the characters who have captured hearts for generations. As Ebenezer Scrooge is guided by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, he encounters the Cratchit family and young Tiny Tim, whose hope, courage, and joy embody the true spirit of the season. Filled with magic, mystery, and timeless storytelling, this classic holiday favorite reminds audiences of all ages that compassion and generosity can change lives.
Featuring a revised script for our 20th year, the production will again feature Hank West as Ebenezer Scrooge.
AUDITION AND SIGN UP DETAILS
In person auditions will be held Saturday, October 3rd, 2026 from 10AM to 2PM at Theatre Charlotte, 501 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. While not required, actors may additionally sing a short acapella selection from a Christmas song of their choosing. Actors may be asked to read multiple roles, so please be prepared to stay until the end of your audition window. Sides will not be available in advance.
Callbacks may be held on Monday, October 5th starting at 6pm.
Video submissions will be accepted through the audition form. Please include a video that is no more than 90 seconds and includes your name and a monologue or spoken word selection, with an optional Christmas song sample. The video submission deadline is Thursday, October 1st at 5PM.
The audition form will close at noon on Friday, October 2nd. Audition request will not be accepted after that.
Theatre Charlotte is a volunteer-based organization and all positions are unpaid.
REHEARSALS
Rehearsals are scheduled to begin October 11th. Rehearsals are tentatively scheduled Sundays through Thursdays starting at 6:30pm and are subject to change during the rehearsal period. There may be a longer rehearsal on a Saturday or Sunday.
AVAILABLE ROLES
We are seeking performers of all body types, skin colors and gender expressions ages 8 and older. Actors may play multiple roles.
The role of Scrooge will be played by Hank West
Narrator: An engaging host who uses language to create visual imagery and help the audience follow Scrooge’s journey.
Cratchit (Male Presenting): Scrooge’s clerk, hardworking but timid. Has strong family values and Christian faith.
Mrs. Cratchit (Female Presenting): Cratchit’s life partner and mother to four children. Strong willed and loving, but has a strong dislike for Scrooge and the situation the family is in.
Martha Cratchit (Female Presenting): The Cratchit’s oldest child. She pitches in to help the family however she can. She has Cratchit’s heart and Mrs. Cratchit’s will.
Tiny Tim: The youngest Cratchit child. Small and frail, sickly. Can be played by a boy, girl or gender neutral.
Fred: Scrooge’s nephew. Well-spoken and social. Has a good heart.
Elizabeth (Female Presenting): Soft spoken and gentle. A kind person. Fred’s wife.
Jacob Marley (Male Presenting): Scrooge’s previous partner. A ruthless, cunning business man in life, now among the Spirit World trying to make good by saving his partner from his same fate.
Past: (any gender identity) a Spirit who takes Scrooge on a journey through his past. Mysterious with a vicious edge. Could be played by any gender and is not age or race specific.
Present: (any gender identity) a jolly Spirit who shows Scrooge poignant moments from the present time. Non-specific gender or ethnicity.
Future: (any gender identity) the most terrifying of all the Spirits.
Mr. Fezziwig (Male Presenting): Scrooge’s previous boss. Full of life, laughter and warmth.
Mrs. Fezziwig (Female Presenting): A fine balance to the free-spirited Fezziwig. She keeps him in line when she needs to but she shares in the joy he spreads.
Old Joe (Male Presenting): Buys and sells goods for the lowest class of people in London. He has a soft spot for women, but is not one to be swindled.
Mrs. Dilbur / Charwoman (Female Presenting): a laundress who lets us see a glimpse into life of the lower class in 1800’s London. She has no filter and will do what she can to survive.
Child Scrooge (Male Presenting): Scrooge as a young boy of school age; before the world begins to turn him into the Scrooge we know today.
Young Scrooge (Male Presenting): Scrooge as a young man finding his way in the world of business and love.
Young Jacob Marley (Male Presenting): A shrewd, cunning young man. Greedy and conniving.
Belle (Female Presenting): Young Scrooge’s love interest. Beautiful and kind, but also strong of mind.
Fan (Female Presenting): Scrooge’s younger sister, whom he deeply loved. Warm and energetic.
Ensemble roles (Male and Female presenting, age 8 and up): Solicitors, Turkey Boy or Girl, Street People, Ignorance, Want, Ghosts and More!
