A Christmas Carol Auditions

Theatre Charlotte is proud to present the 19th annual production of Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol, directed by Steve Price and starring Hank West as Scrooge. Performances will be held at Theatre Charlotte from December 5 – 14, 2025.

AUDITION AND SIGN UP DETAILS

Auditions will be held in person on Saturday, Sept. 27th from 10am to 2pm and Monday, Sept. 29th from 6pm to 9pm at Theatre Charlotte located at 501 Queens Road,  Charlotte, NC 28207. 

Please sign up for an audition time and fill out an audition form here.

During your audition time, you will be reading a scene from the script based on the character you are auditioning for. Sides will not be available in advance.  If you are interested in performing as a Caroler, please be prepared to sing a few bars from a carol of your choice. 

Video submissions will be accepted through Sept. 26th at 5pm. 

Theatre Charlotte is a volunteer-based organization and all positions are unpaid.

REHEARSALS

Rehearsals are typically held Sunday through Thursday evenings starting at 6:00pm. Detailed rehearsal schedules will be created as soon as possible after the show is cast.

AVAILABLE ROLES

Theatre Charlotte is looking for a cast that reflects the diverse population of the Charlotte region and many roles can be cast across gender identity, ethnicity, race and experience.  Actors cast in the show will be playing multiple roles. Please note that the role of Ebenezer Scrooge has already been cast

Cratchit (Male Presenting): Scrooge’s clerk, hardworking but timid. Has strong family values and Christian faith.

Mrs. Cratchit (Female Presenting): Cratchit’s life partner and mother to four children. Strong willed and loving, but has a strong dislike for Scrooge and the situation the family is in.

Martha Cratchit (Female Presenting): The Cratchit’s oldest child. She pitches in to help the family however she can. She has Cratchit’s heart and Mrs. Cratchit’s will.

Tiny Tim (Male Presenting): The youngest Cratchit child. Small and frail, sickly. Can be played by a boy, girl or gender neutral.

Fred (or Fran): Scrooge’s sister’s child. Well-spoken and social. Has a good heart. Can be played as Scrooge’s nephew or niece.

Elizabeth (Female Presenting): Soft spoken and gentle. A kind person.

Jacob Marley (Male Presenting): Scrooge’s previous partner. A ruthless, cunning business man in life, now among the Spirit World trying to make good by saving his partner from his same fate.

Past: (any gender identity) a Spirit who takes Scrooge on a journey through his past.  Mysterious with a vicious edge. Could be played by any gender and is not age or race specific.

Present: (any gender identity) a jolly Spirit who shows Scrooge poignant moments from the present time. Non-specific gender or ethnicity.

Future:  (any gender identity) the most terrifying of all the Spirits.

Mr. Fezziwig (Male Presenting): Scrooge’s previous boss. Full of life, laughter and warmth.

Mrs. Fezziwig (Female Presenting): A fine balance to the free-spirited Fezziwig. She keeps him in line when she needs to but she shares in the joy he spreads.

Old Joe (Male Presenting): Buys and sells goods for the lowest class of people in London. He has a soft spot for women, but is not one to be swindled. 

Mrs. Dilbur (Female Presenting): a laundress who lets us see a glimpse into life of the lower class in 1800’s London. Assertive and flirty.

Child Scrooge (Male Presenting): Scrooge as a young boy of school age; before the world begins to turn him into the Scrooge we know today.

Young Scrooge (Male Presenting): Scrooge as a young man finding his way in the world of business and love.

Young Jacob Marley (Male Presenting): A shrewd, cunning young man. Greedy and conniving.

Belle (Female Presenting): Young Scrooge’s love interest. Beautiful and kind, but also strong of mind.

Fan (Female Presenting): Scrooge’s younger sister, whom he deeply loved. Warm and energetic.

Solicitor(s): (any gender identity) does his or her job with pride and earnest. Not an easy job but does not quickly take “no” for an answer.

Business Men: Several persons who spend their days gossiping and conducting business. Of a different class, or so they presume to be.

Turkey Boy or Girl: walking the streets on Christmas morning, looking for fun or maybe trouble. Not a care in the world.

Street Boy or Girl: a young person of the street, a beggar. How did he/she get there? What is his/her story?

Street People: various people who let us see into the life and classes of Victorian London.

Ignorance: a boy who signifies the doom of mankind.

Want: a girl who represents one of the worst traits of human existence.

Carolers: a group of energetic singers who set the tone for various scenes and transitions.

Spirits: trapped between the world of the living and the beyond; each has a reason for their fate. They help us move through time and from place to place.
