The musical version of Dickens’ “Oliver
Twist” tells the story of a young orphan, Oliver Twist, who runs away
from an apprenticeship at an undertaker’s and is picked up hungry and
tired in the streets of London by the Artful Dodger who leads him to
Fagin’s den. And there the adventure begins.
“Oliver” is a memorable musical, featuring
songs such as “Food, Glorious Food,” “Consider Yourself,” “It’s a Fine
Life,” “Who Will Buy,” and the haunting “As Long As He Needs Me.” A
long running hit in both New York and London, the film version won an
Academy Award as Best Movie.
