just do it is a monthly themed reading and performance series making its local premiere-season debut at Theatre Charlotte on Friday, February 29 at 8pm. Its first season will continue with 3 additional Friday evenings over the following 3 months.

Each night has a different theme in the form of a title, word or expression. Writers and other artists present original material based on their take of the theme. The structure and venue provide “inspiration” for actors who write, writers who need deadlines and performers who want to perform. Each evening new works will be presented as well as installments of regular segments, including picture this, where 2-3 writers will compose short pieces based on an original photograph.

All contributors are simply asked to adhere to pre-show deadlines to submit early and final drafts, and then show up prior to curtain. There are no restrictions in terms of choice of content or presentation of material. Musicians, singers, actors and performance artists are all welcome to participate.

Following each performance will be a chance for performers and audience to mingle informally and discuss the evening’s work.

just do it originated in New York City and ran there for 3 seasons in the early 90’s. It was later revived in Denver, CO in 2001. It was created by Vito Abate who will serve as producer with Theatre Charlotte, and host.
