is a monthly themed reading and
performance series with its 4th season premiere at Theatre Charlotte
Friday October 16, 2009. Co-created and produced by Vito Abate it
originated in the East Village in New York City running as a
bi-monthly series (always on a Monday!) for 3 seasons (17 shows) in
the early 90’s. It was later revived in Denver, CO in 2001 and
premiered in Charlotte on February 29, 2008.
In
addition to 10 minute or less pieces and special appearances by
Phoebe, new regular segments to appear in each show this
season are On the Spot,

Tonight's Surprise!:
It could be the return of and fresh installment of one of jdi's
popular segments such as picture this, Jorja (on my mind), Word
for Word, City Queens, “I” piece, Tonight's Mad Lib, VOICE, just
view it or...?

ABOUT THE SHOW…
just
do it
is an
all-inclusive themed event providing deadlines, focus and a venue
bringing together pros and newcomers, writers, singers, spoken word
and performance artists, non-theatre folk and risk takers of all
types and ages and a ready-for-a-good-time audience!
THE
FOCUS
Each night has a different theme in the form of a title, word or
expression. Individuals may use any number of mediums to express
their take on the theme.
THE
VENUE
All performances take place in the theater on the mainstage complete
with lights and sound. Wine, beer and soft drinks available in the
lobby help create a social atmosphere to mingle and share
impressions with friends, audience members and performers.
THE
DEADLINES
Participants MUST COMMIT to meet submission deadlines for first and
final drafts, time/word limits and to be available pre-show for a
technical rehearsal. Deadlines are usually at least 4-6 weeks
prior to performance date.

THE
CONTENT
There are no restrictions on what can be presented. Other than
adhering to deadlines and guidelines within certain regular
segments, the participants’ pieces must be within the pre-set time
limit.

unlike an open mic night, available slots are lined up well in
advance of the performance date

shorter pieces for beginner writers are an option
*
opportunities may be available for directors, or actors to appear in
original short play readings
*
never been onstage?—not a problem: very supportive environment

no pay, but a great opportunity
