Full concert version of CAROLINE, OR CHANGE
Set in one of the most dramatic times in America's history, the Tony-nominated CAROLINE, OR CHANGE is a riveting blend of blues, gospel and traditional melodies. Music is by Jeanine Tesori, composer of such Broadway hits as FUN HOME, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE and SHREK the Musical. The book and lyrics are by Tony Kushner, author of the acclaimed ANGELS IN AMERICA.
Caroline, a black woman, works as a maid for a Jewish family in 1963 New Orleans, where she is allowed to keep the pocket change she finds while doing the laundry. This becomes a point of pride and even crisis for Caroline, who cannot cope with the greater changes in her life and the growing civil rights movement.
The cast features TRACIE FRANK (Caroline), TYNIA BRANDON (Emmie), IBRAHIM WEB (Joe), YABI GEDEWAN (Jackie), DANI BURKE (washing machine), DOMINIQUE ATWATER & KAYLA FERGUSON (the radio), TYLER SMITH (the bus/the dryer), ALLISON SNOW RHINEHARDT (Rose Stopnick Gellman), CHRIS CHANDLER (Stuart Gellman), STUART SPENCER (Grandpa Gellman), VEDA COVINGTON (Dotty Moffett) and BRITTANY CURRIE (the moon). Music direction is by Zachary Tarlton.
Tickets are available by calling Theatre Charlotte, 704.376.3777 or in person at Theatre Charlotte (10 am to 5 pm, Mon-Fri).
Produced by special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
