ABOUT US
Theatre
Charlotte, Charlotte’s community theatre, has been changing lives since
1927. Our mission is to create outstanding theatre opportunities
relevant to the people of the Charlotte region. We are committed to
making theatre relevant in the lives of more people by demonstrating
that theatre engages, inspires and unites community. We fulfill this
commitment through our programming and other initiatives. Our Main
Stage Series consists of five productions selected for their broad-based
community appeal. In partnership with Vito Abate, we present a monthly
themed reading and performance series called ‘just do it,’ which
provides an outlet for area performers, writers, singers, filmmakers,
musicians and dancers. We have established a holiday tradition with our
annual production of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” Our 24 Hour
Theatre Project is a unique event in which six ten-minute plays are
written, cast, rehearsed and presented to an audience—all within 24
hours!
Additional programming includes a New Year’s Eve
Celebration, a murder mystery dinner theatre (Wine, Chocolate and
Murder), Junior Cabaret—showcasing the talent of young people, ages
8-18—and a musical movie series, where the audience can sing along to
such movies as “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Grease.” Theatre
Charlotte also sponsors the Student Theatre Guild, a city-wide theatre
club for teens, ages 14-18.
Theatre Charlotte is a non-profit 501
(c)(3) organization, with a volunteer board of directors and a paid
staff of 3 full-time employees and 1 part-time employee. Through our
Main Stage and Stage 501 series, Theatre Charlotte provides many
volunteer opportunities for performers, backstage workers and ushers,
while guest directors, designers, music directors, choreographers and
musicians are hired on a per show basis.
Auditions for Theatre Charlotte
productions are open to anyone in the Charlotte region. As the oldest
continuously producing community theatre in North Carolina, Theatre
Charlotte is proud of its heritage and its long-time tradition of
production excellence.
